Block and Tackle
I was through with writing
Simple little verses
When I saw a line of traffic
Led by two black hearses.
I dutifully pulled over,
Put my car in park,
Watched the grim procession
Winding through the dark.
Suddenly I had an urge
To lean upon my horn
And blow the living daylights
Out of all of us who mourn.
Good sense, however, soon prevailed,
And I went home to think.
I put my mind back into drive,
Got out my pen and ink.
So here I am a blogger
Once more writing verse,
Inspired by the face of death
Passing in a hearse.
