Diazepam
With terror, fear and trepidation,
I approach my next oblation.
Terrified of the dentist's drill,
Wishing I could call in ill,
I quake and shake and take a pill.
I mutter countless imprecations,
With demonic implications,
Call my teeth abominations,
Briefly think of amputation.
Thankful now for medication,
Which has kicked in really fast;
Please Dear God just let it last.
Amen

Pun-ish-ment
Just as I was going under,
Sitting in the Dentist's chair,
I saw a black ant walking towards me:
"Wonderland," I thought, "I'm there."
Then the Dentist needled me,
And I could not see to see.*
*With apologies to Emily D and Dr.
Brents, both of whom I like very much.

My Life: a Cliche
With cracking and popping
And the greatest of ease,
He extracted my tooth
Just as slick as you please:
Dr. Brents, the dentist,
Very like Hercules.
