Shelob's Lair
Today I saved a flutter bug,
Dangling near our kitchen door,
Stole away the spider's meal:
You should have heard that spider roar!

Taking Time, Indeed
I met a bug upon my walk;
He said he had no time to talk;
So with a sly malicious frown,
I turned and brought my right foot down,
Or turned and brought my foot right down.
In either case the bug is dead
And out of time indeed, I said,
And out of time indeed.

Laughter
I saw a bug of curious design,
Odd proportions, and alien mind:
Back legs like twigs, front legs like thread,
On top of it all, a triangular head;
As if God playing with matter for fun,
Said, "Be, little bug, for laughter you're done."

The Swarm
Those swarming bugs in autumn air--
I twirl my cane; they go nowhere--
But in my eyes and up my nose,
Even in-between my toes!
I swear the air is filled with wings
And numerous other buggy things.

Gnat Here
A bug just walked across my screen;
Audacious bug, it paused to preen.
I think it was a stellar gnat
Come down to show me this and that.
The gnat, alas, would not compute;
So off I sent it to reboot.

Fate's Invisible Web
I look away,
Then quickly back,
Assuming a bug's eye view:
There's nothing there
But empty space
Waiting for me to fly through.
